Extreme Devotion to the House of God - Psalm 132
Friday Dec 02, 2022
Friday Dec 02, 2022
Pslam 132:1 LORD, remember David and all his afflictions.
David went through many afflictions in his life. He suffered the loss of a child, a violent son, a jealous king, a captured wife, a best friend dying in battle, etc. He also sacrificed to build a dwelling place for God.
Indeed, I have taken much trouble to prepare for the house of the LORD” (1 Chron 22:14).
The Son of David also endured afflictions to build us up as a dwelling place for God.
“Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted” (Is 53:4).
“In whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit” (Eph 2:21-22).
David modeled extreme devotion to the house of God. He says in this psalm....
"I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
Be encouraged to give your whole heart in pursuing the presence of God!

Ascending in Humility - Psalm 131
Thursday Nov 17, 2022
Thursday Nov 17, 2022
Psalm 131:1 A psalm of David. Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.
The simplicity here is refreshing. We need not worry or waste time on things that are too high for us. It is the “high things” that seek to steal our hearts from the “simplicity that is in Messiah”:
“But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ” (2 Cor. 11:3).
Considering that these psalms are written to help us ascend, this psalm is a marked step on the journey of walking humbly with the God who lifts up the lowly.
The humility expressed in these words becomes even more profound when we visualize this prayer coming from the mighty, giant-slaying king of Israel. We see that even in his lowest points, David models a life of deep surrender to the will of God.
Join us as we learn from David how to ascend in humility.

Finding God in the Depths - Psalm 130
Friday Nov 04, 2022
Friday Nov 04, 2022
“Out of the depths” can refer to a variety of low places in life—failure, pain, sin, etc. From this low place, God can bring the “abundant redemption” that sweetly sings out at the end of this chapter.
Imagine waiting through the night as a watchman with no wristwatch.
As the vigilant watchman stays up through the night longing to see the light of morning, this psalm speaks of a soul that even more desperately longs for God.
May our souls so long for the light of God!
